Our Foundation: Building a Community of Learning and Growth

Anna’s House School began as a heartfelt vision, one rooted in a deep commitment to children, families, and the transformative power of community-based education. What started as a dream on February 15, 2019, quickly grew into a mission: to create a school where every child is known, valued, and supported as a whole person. From the very beginning, the founding team believed that children thrive when they are surrounded by educators who nurture their emotional development with the same care and intention as their academic growth. That belief became the foundation upon which Anna’s House was built.

The early months were filled with planning sessions, community conversations, and countless moments of imagining what a truly child-centered school could be. Families, educators, and supporters came together to shape a place that would feel less like an institution and more like a home; a space where curiosity is encouraged, kindness is modeled, and learning is infused with joy. After months of dreaming and building relationships, Anna’s House officially opened its doors on September 8, 2020. The inaugural year welcomed families into a school designed to feel safe, imaginative, and deeply connected. Even in a time of global uncertainty, the school became a steady, nurturing environment where children could explore, grow, and belong.

Our campus is located within the grounds of the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB), a partnership that has been invaluable to our growth and stability. This unique setting provides Anna’s House with exceptional campus security, professional oversight, and robust infrastructure. With 24/7 monitoring and a dedicated security team, families can trust that their children are learning in an environment that is not only warm and enriching but also exceptionally safe and protected. This partnership allows us to focus fully on what matters most: creating meaningful learning experiences and building a community where every child feels seen and supported.
